Parent Resources
Please find parent resources to help you navigate life with your children. Some of these resources are from NYS Department of Education and the Syosset Central School District.
Here are some of the recent district presentations form our meetings this year.
Our MTSS Goals: The Syosset Central School District believes in providing a Culture of Care for all students, using the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. MTSS is a systemic, continuous-improvement framework in which data-based problem-solving and decision-making is practiced across all levels of the educational system for supporting students. MTSS is a framework used to provide targeted support to struggling students. The goal of MTSS is to intervene early so students can catch up with their peers. It screens students and aims to address academic and behavior challenges. The MTSS framework relies on a cultural view of learning and human development in which multiple expressions of diversity are recognized and regarded as assets for teaching and learning (NYS Ed Department, 2019).

Syosset High School is committed to the transition process. One of the best ways we help students to realize their full potential is to assist them in becoming their own best advocates. The goal, with regard to students with disabilities, is to equalize educational opportunities by minimizing physical, psychological, and learning barriers
To facilitate efforts to eliminate discrimination against students with disabilities, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) offers this resource guide to provide answers to questions that OCR has received and increase understanding among parents and members of the school community of the Federal civil rights laws that protect students with disabilities in public schools, and in particular, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504).
The following information concerns procedural safeguards that are your legal rights under federal and State laws to be informed about and involved in the special education process and to make sure that your child receives a free appropriate public education (FAPE).
